The Flor de Caña Open at Mukul, an Auberge Resort
The PGA TOUR Latinoamérica made its second visit to Nicaragua this past September for the playing of the Flor de Caña Open Presented by Mukul, an Auberge Resort. This exciting event was first launched during a press conference held on April 6th, 2016 in the capital city of Managua.
The tournament was held at Guacalito de la Isla, a world class venue located on the shores of Nicaragua’s stunning Emerald Coast – about 75 miles south of Managua.
Like the first year, The Flor de Caña Open at Mukul, an Auberge Resort started with a Monday Qualifier played in Managua’s Nejapa Country Club on the 28th. Ten successful entrants from the qualifier completed a 144-man field to battle for the title at the David McLay Kidd designed golf course at Guacalito de la Isla starting on September 1st.
Nicaragua became the fourth Central American nation to join PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and it continues to be the highest level of golf played in the country.
“It's been great hosting this event for the second year. We continue to feel honoured by this opportunity the PGA TOUR has given us to have a PGA TOUR Latinoamérica event in Nicaragua. It’s an event that continues to put our country on the international golf map,” said Gustavo Betancourt, the golf director at Guacalito de la Isla.
